After graduating from Syracuse University with a degree in Psychology, I spent a year in
rural Texas, serving in V.I.S.T.A. as a volunteer in a
Community Action Agency. When I moved to Durham, North Carolina in 1973, I never dreamed I’d still be here 35 years
later, but Durham is definitely home.
I have been working at Duke University, in the Auxiliary Services department, for 24
years. The scope of my job continues to grow and change, so I’ve never
been bored. Outside of work, I've never stopped singing. I
spent 22 years singing in a dance band, doing mostly wedding receptions, but
I’ve outgrown that now. I am currently singing in a wonderful women's
chorus in Chapel Hill (Women's
Voices Chorus), and I am also on the board. The music is challenging
and the camaraderie is amazing. It’s been great getting back to what I
loved so much in high school – choral music.
I have been married to
Don Moore for 24 years, and he is also very musical. He sings and plays
guitar, bass, and keyboard, so we have harmonized together on many
occasions. Our 22 year old son, Lee, just graduated from Oberlin College with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and is now
working in a medical research lab in Boston.
The photos were taken
about two years ago during a trip to the North Carolina mountains.
